COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

Dhamma Mitra - Code of Conduct

Last Updated: January 28, 2026

Namaste & Mangal Ho!

Welcome to the Dhamma Mitra digital Sangha. This platform is a sanctuary for Vipassana meditators. Just as we maintain Noble Silence and Segregation within a course to protect our practice, we must maintain Right Speech (Samma Vaca) and Right Action (Samma Kammanta) on this platform to protect the community atmosphere.

By using Dhamma Mitra, you agree to follow these guidelines strictly.

1. Right Speech (What to Post & Say)

The core of our community is based on truthful and beneficial communication.

  • No Harsh Language: Do not use abusive, hateful, defamatory, or offensive language in posts, comments, or private messages.
  • No Gossip or Slander: Avoid discussing the character of other sadhaks, Assistant Teachers, or Trust members publicly.
  • Be Constructive: If you are asking for help or sharing an experience, keep it polite. If you disagree with someone's post, respond with Metta (compassion), not anger.

2. Respecting the Technique (Dhamma Purity)

This platform is for supporting meditators, not for teaching or debating the technique.

  • Do Not Play Teacher: Please refrain from giving intellectual advice on how to meditate. If a sadhak has a question about the technique, direct them to contact an Assistant Teacher (AT) or refer to Guruji’s discourses.
  • No Mixing of Techniques: Do not promote other meditation techniques, rites, rituals, or healing practices here. We are solely focused on Vipassana as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin.
  • No Theoretical Debates: Avoid long intellectual arguments about philosophy that create confusion for new students. Keep the focus on practical help (travel, stay, seva).

3. Zero Tolerance for Commercial Activity

Dhamma Mitra is a 100% Non-Commercial platform.

  • No Advertising: You cannot sell products (even Dhamma-related items like cushions or books), services, or courses here.
  • No Fundraising: Do not use the feed to ask for donations for personal reasons or unauthorized charities.
  • No Spam: Do not copy-paste the same message repeatedly or send bulk messages to users.

4. Safety & Relationships (Brahmacharya Aspect)

This is a platform for spiritual friendship, not romantic pursuits.

  • No Dating or Flirting: Using this platform to seek romantic partners or dates is strictly prohibited. Unwanted advances towards any user will lead to an immediate ban.
  • Respect Boundaries: If a user does not reply to your message or asks you to stop contacting them, you must respect their wish immediately.
  • Gender Segregation in Accommodation: When offering or seeking accommodation (stay), we strongly encourage following the principle of segregation (Males hosting Males, Females hosting Females) to ensure safety and comfort, unless it is a family setting.

5. Privacy & Data Protection

Respect the privacy of your fellow Dhamma brothers and sisters.

  • No Doxing: Never post someone else's private information (phone number, home address, photos) on the public feed without their explicit permission.
  • Protect Course Details: Do not share photos of other students from inside a course/center without their consent, as they may wish to maintain their privacy.

6. Content Guidelines (Photos & Media)

  • Relevant Content Only: Please share content related to Vipassana travel, centers, seva experiences, or inspiring quotes. Avoid posting irrelevant political memes, religious propaganda, or entertainment videos.
  • Decency: Do not post any content that is sexually explicit, violent, or disturbing.

7. Reporting & Enforcement

We rely on the community to help us maintain these standards.

Report Button: If you see a post or receive a message that violates these guidelines, please use the "Report" button immediately.

Consequences:

  • First Violation: Warning and removal of content.
  • Second Violation: Temporary suspension of account (7 days).
  • Serious/Repeated Violation: Permanent Ban (Account Deletion).
